Day 69 • Count Up To 50! — TBT — A throwback to circa 1993. American Greetings Life Magazine Outsert Ad Illustrations.

This was a style proposal piece for the American Greetings ad. AG liked it but felt it was too over the top for the Life Magazine ad. We did more streamlined versions of the illustrations — still pastel, but not as "balloony" and with less marks showing. The job went all the way through the keyline stage and at proofing they killed the art and went with photography.

Day 57 • Count Up To 50! — Hotter Than Hell Chili

Each October our neighborhood would hold a chili cook-off. We had to name our chili. I went over the top and created logos each year. This was the name for one of those chilis. Look for more chili logos throughout Count Up To 50!

Day 49 • Count Up To 50! — Dave & Duke's Pencil Sketch

Dave and Duke owned a local tavern and wanted to have caricatures done of themselves to represent their new restaurant. Here is one of the pencil sketch layouts.

Day 48 • Count Up To 50! — #TBT — Painting from Materials & Techniques Class

I did this painting while in my last year at Kent State University (1989). The class was Materials & Techniques. Each project used a different "Old Master" Technique (ex. egg tempera, trompe l'oeil). I can't remember what this painting used. I'm guessing some really thinned down oil paints on gessoed board.

Day 43 • Count Up To 50! — New Orleans Jazz Musicians

One of a series of 9 illustrations for 3 Picker International Brochures. This was one of my first award winning pieces (Silver ADDY from the Akron Ad Club) from before my company became official. Originally black & white only, I colorized it before I added it to iStock at the beginning of 2015.

Day 42 • Count Up To 50! — Skillshare Project — Beatles' Tools Poster

I created this yesterday for my latest Skillshare class. It was suppose to be a postcard but I made it a poster. We were to pick 5 "Tools" of something. It was suppose to be done in Photoshop but I wanted to show that I could do the same basic thing in Illustrator. Broke another rule and added a third and fourth color.
